Google Chops Picnik

The online photo editing tool Picnik that has a strong legion of firm followers and users is due to close its service on the 19^th April, after owners Google chose to scrap it in a recent cull of some of its services in the quest to steam line its business model.

The site which previously offered a full range of tools for paid premium members and some tools completely free for all users is said to be having some of it is features worked in to Google’s social networking platform Google although which ones and exactly how it will be integrated are yet to be made clear

Picnik is probably the most popular of sites that Google is scrapping but also many other services are due to be axed which include Google SkyMaps. A large portion of its users come from the teen demographic who have embraced Picnik’s picture alteration elements such as filters and adding picture stamps and text to their photographs. Picnik is however popular with all ages, the face enhancement features are really effective and easy to use, with tools such a eye brightening, teeth whitening, make up, and insta thin. Tools like these are fabulous to get that perfect Facebook profile picture to make your partner jealous after they’ve run off with the local floozy and you’ve called the divorce solicitors in!

There are however some online alternatives that you can check out once Picnik’s demise has hit, such as Pixlar, although none that I have come across so far have come close to Picnik’s capabilities and ease of use. The only other option to recreate similar photo effects is to bite the bullet and purchase Photoshop, although costly it does offer you the fullest range of photo editing tools to help you get that perfect picture.

Google brainwashing

Let’s face it Google is everything to us! We have created a world in which we cannot live without Google. When we need to know something what’s the first thing we think of to do… Google it! We even look on Google for the time these days, yes really the time, what on earth happened to watches? In this technology age we have taught ourselves to rely on search engines like Google to provide us with all the information we might possibly ever want or need. The only problem we are facing now is, can we really trust the man behind the Google curtain? Who is controlling the information that is being presented to us, and what if they have a hidden agenda?

The internet is overflowing with endless information and it is forever growing. Of course we need someone to control this information to us, and organize it, otherwise how would we ever find the most relevant and best results for the searches we are carrying out. We must be thankful to Google for this as they certainly do a good job of controlling what ends up on our screens.

But this also may be where the real problem lies, CONTROL!!!

So maybe we are looking for tailors manchester, we type it in and what do we get? If anything is ringing true when I hear the words Google street view it is George Orwell’s, ’1984'perhaps Orwell was right, perhaps he was a Nostradamus in disguise…

And Google Plus is expanding – from gaming experience (such as the popular mobile game Angry Birds) to the different Google-related options (Search engine and maps), the Google plus experience is becoming far more attractive than anything else in the social media world.

Google Your Grey Matter

There are developments that add to the well-being of mankind and then there are developments that take away from life. Recently I was looking for some information that I needed at the local library and approached the librarian for assistance. After hearing me out, and realising that the stuff that I needed was not available, she rather caustically told me to ‘google’ it as it would be a speedy thing to do. For a moment I was stumped, until realisation dawned that she was referring to the popular search engine.

Now you tell me, why on earth would I want to go to a library when any required information is just a click away? Let me tell you: it makes me feel lazy. It makes me feel that it is not hard earned and that I have cheated in my efforts. I know that many would not agree with me and that a few would even suggest http://www.net-root.com/ . But the fact is, by doing that, I am not being true to what I have set out to do. Sure there are times when googling for it would do, but there are some things that cannot be downloaded or siphoned off someone else’s hard work.

It makes me wonder if this is actually counterproductive. You remember that old saying, ‘You don’t use it, you lose it?’ Are we heading to a situation where the parts that make up our grey matter are getting smaller due to lack of use? I know people who can do multiple calculations without batting an eye. And I know people who, for the same thing, would need to pull out a calculator to arrive at the same result. The difference lies in the grey matter that is available, is in use and can be relied on at a moment’s notice. So are the advantages of google shrinking our brains? I mean, would you google to know if the current relationship you are in will work? Stumped?

To the everyday man Google is just a search engine. It is a place where you type what you want to search for and you get information back. Most believe it is the best search engine out there today. You don’t pay a single dime for using Google yet there are Google employees who are paid well and all the money that the company is making. You are probably wondering how in the world Google makes any money off of a free search engine site.

If Google really had services that were completely free they would be broke but Google follows a sound model of business. Like any successful business Google makes a lot of money. Here are a few of the ways:

Sponsored Links – If you want your website to be on the top of every page you have to send Google some money. How do websites make money? They make it by advertising. How does Google make money? They make it by advertising. When you do your search you should notice that at the top of the search results page is a faint beige background, these are sponsored links and the main source of income for Google. ”

Google AdSense – AdSense is a program which helps advertiser put advertisements on websites. Basically Google is acting as the go between for the advertisers and websites.

Google AdWords – Basically AdWords records what people search for and sells it to websites to help them with to search engine optimize their website. If you target all the important AdWords you will be able to get your website ranked higher in search queries.

Google sued for £264 Million by French search engine

With Google having already taken over the world it’s hardly surprising that other search engines are now beginning to line up and try and topple Google off its perch. An article that appeared on the BBC website recently reported that a French Internet search engine 1PlusV is suing Google for 295 million Euros (£264 Million). They claim that Google has used its market dominance to block the development of rival services. 1PlusV claim that its actions are designed to help all companies, not just themselves, against Google’s wilful exploitation of the internet. Closer competition rules need to apply.

International roaming is something that has been on many people’s minds recently and the term has been used on Google a lot in recent months. Yet some industry analysts are alleging that Google is not always providing the most relevant or trusted results on this and many other search terms. As it operates a ‘pay per click'service for its clients it is hardly surprising that you won’t always get the most trusted results to show first, but as anyone will tell you the ‘pay per click'results are always shown within a light pink background to distinguish themselves from the results that have ranked all by themselves.

We are entering a tricky and complicated mine field with SEO and Google in particular as there is still no clear international regulation on these matters. Until then it will be the decisions of the courts from different countries that shape the way of things to come.

Google Is Search Engine And OS – A Risky Combination

Overcoming the growing distrust about Google may have been easier had it focused on the search engine market alone. An operating system will always face the risk of viruses. This means that Google may entering the virus protection market as well. This is an integral part of each and every operating system and chances are high that the service provider may want to keep this part of the market under its own control.

In such a scenario, we are looking at a situation where bulk of the information and solutions to protect information will be under the control of a single entity – Google. What makes this particularly dangerous is that a single flaw will be enough to compromise not just your operating system but you are online presence as well. In today’s world, that can lead to disastrous consequences. From inefficiency to malice, the average user will be at the receiving end if something goes wrong with Google. The worst part is that everybody is cool with the idea despite being aware of the numerous risks involved.
